Important notes

External favicon services are not part of Pinus Maximus, and their use is entirely optional. Pinus Maximus has no contractual relationship with them and is not responsible for their operation, availability, terms, privacy practices, or policies.

Template URLs must contain exactly one {domain} token. Pinus Maximus replaces it with the saved link's exact normalized HTTP(S) hostname, such as www.example.com or maps.google.com. It does not strip www. and does not send page paths, query strings, fragments, credentials, titles, settings, or uploaded icon metadata.

Subdomains are preserved, so https://shop.example.com/private/path is sent as shop.example.com. Local, private, .local, .localhost, single-label intranet, and private IP hostnames are blocked before any Firefox consent prompt, host-permission check, or network request. By default, no third-party favicon data is transmitted; use system icons or custom uploads to avoid third-party favicon requests entirely.

Services are tried from top to bottom. Accepted response formats are PNG, ICO, and WebP. External SVG favicon responses are blocked for security reasons.

Automatic first match stops at the first active service that returns a valid favicon. Automatic best match requests candidates from every active service, keeps the largest image size, and uses service order as the tie-breaker. Compare favicons also requests candidates from every active service, but displays them for manual selection and returns only the selected favicon. The selection dialog opens in hybrid order, sorting candidates by favicon size while preserving service order for same-size candidates; users can switch to service order to see the configured service sequence. These modes can generate more network traffic than first match.

Favicons are provided only to help users identify saved Link items more easily. Website icons, logos, and other visual assets may be protected by trademark, copyright, or other rights; misleading, unauthorized, or unlawful use may infringe the rights of others.

The provider list was compiled with the help of several AI-assisted searches, but it is not exhaustive, not official, and is provided only as a starting point. A more current list may be available on the website.

Manual favicon upload

To upload favicons manually, first obtain the icon from a reliable source. A free provider that allows commercial use and does not require attribution is usually easiest to manage.

One example source is uxwing.com, but other similar services may also be used depending on your needs. Uxwing.com is not part of Pinus Maximus; Pinus Maximus is not affiliated with it and does not maintain, endorse, or guarantee it.
