1. Scope
These Terms of Use apply to the Pinus Maximus browser extension, the legal documents packaged with or linked from the extension, and extension-related resources.
They do not apply to the pinusmaximus.com website. The website has separate Website Terms of Use, Website Privacy Policy and Website Legal Notice.
2. Acceptance
By installing, opening, updating, using or continuing to use the extension, you agree to these terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
If you do not agree, do not install or use the extension, or remove it from your browser.
3. Project nature
Pinus Maximus is provided as a free independent hobby project.
It is not a paid product, managed commercial service, cloud sync service or guaranteed support service. The core extension features do not require payment, subscription, donation or support.
4. What the extension does
Pinus Maximus provides a custom browser start page with user-managed screens, groups, saved links, folders, search providers, appearance settings, hotkeys, background images, import/export tools and optional favicon tools.
You control what links, names, images, providers, templates and settings you add.
5. Local data and backups
Your pinboard data, settings, background images, custom icons, search providers, favicon service settings, logs and backups are your responsibility.
The extension stores most data locally in your browser profile. Local data can be lost because of browser updates, browser profile changes, extension removal, storage clearing, import/overwrite actions, reset actions, user error, technical failure or other events.
Pinus Maximus does not guarantee that local data will always remain available. Keep backups of important data.
6. Browser permissions
The extension may request browser permissions needed for its features. In the current release, required runtime permissions are kept minimal, and favicon services use optional host permissions when a selected service needs access to its service origin.
Optional host permissions should be granted only when you trust the relevant favicon service and want the extension to request icons from that service. You can review or remove site access through the extension or browser settings where supported.
In Firefox builds that support Firefox's built-in data collection and data transmission consent system, optional searchTerms and browsingActivity consent may be requested for user-enabled search provider and third-party favicon features. The Firefox manifest declares data_collection_permissions.required: ["none"]. The detailed data handling rules are explained in the extension Privacy Policy.
7. Third-party services
The extension may let you open, configure or link to third-party services such as websites, search providers, AI/chat providers, favicon services, image platforms, browser stores, tutorial platforms, social platforms, donation platforms and support resources.
These services are independent from Pinus Maximus. Unless expressly stated otherwise, Pinus Maximus has no ownership, partnership, agency, reseller, endorsement or sponsorship relationship with them.
You are responsible for checking and accepting third-party terms, privacy policies, prices, quotas, API rules, licences and technical limits before using them.
Any costs, credits, subscriptions, API usage, AI usage, overage fees, donations or other charges from third-party services are between you and that third party. Pinus Maximus does not create, approve, invoice, refund or pay those charges.
8. Search, AI and favicon examples
Provider lists, template URLs, prompt examples, configuration ideas and recommendations are informational starting points only.
They are not guarantees, warranties, official recommendations, professional advice or promises that a provider is safe, available, accurate, free or suitable for your use.
AI-generated responses from third-party tools may be inaccurate, incomplete or misleading. Use them at your own risk.
9. User-provided content
You are responsible for links, names, icons, images, providers, templates, notes, exports and other content that you add or import.
Do not add or use content that you do not have the right to use, that is unlawful, harmful, misleading, abusive or that infringes the rights of others.
10. Intellectual property and third-party assets
The Pinus Maximus name, project identity, extension-specific logos, icons, domains, poster images, documentation, UI elements, original code and other project-specific materials are the intellectual creation and property of Keresztes Zsolt unless a different owner or licence is stated.
Favicons, brand icons, logos, names and similar marks used for saved links or favicon lookup may belong to the relevant website, brand owner or rights holder. They are used only to identify or open the related link.
Background images, stock photos, media examples, icon sources and other third-party materials remain the property of their creators, photographers, platforms, licensors or rights holders. You must check and follow any applicable licence, attribution, usage and redistribution rules.
11. Acceptable use
You must not use the extension or related resources in an unlawful, harmful, misleading, abusive or disruptive way.
You must not use the extension to attack services, overload third-party providers, bypass access restrictions, distribute malware, infringe rights, misrepresent affiliation or violate applicable law or platform rules.
12. Donations and support
Pinus Maximus is free to use.
Donations, support payments, follows, ratings, reviews or shares are optional. They are not required for the extension to work.
A donation or support action does not create a paid service contract, guarantee support, guarantee updates, guarantee features, guarantee availability or create priority rights unless a separate written agreement says so.
13. Availability, updates and end of project
The extension, its features, documentation, links, examples and resources may change, be delayed, be removed, stop working or be discontinued at any time.
Browser stores may delay or reject updates. Browser changes, permission changes, third-party service changes or platform rules may affect the extension.
Continuous availability, maintenance, compatibility, support, data preservation or long-term operation is not guaranteed.
14. No warranties
The extension is provided "as is" and "as available".
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, no warranty is given for uninterrupted operation, error-free operation, data preservation, fitness for a particular purpose, compatibility, security, accuracy, third-party availability or support.
15. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the project operator is not liable for losses, damages, data loss, configuration errors, service interruptions, third-party charges, third-party actions or other consequences arising from use of, inability to use, update, removal, modification or reliance on the extension or related resources.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability, rights or remedies that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
16. Privacy
The extension Privacy Policy explains how data is handled by the installed extension.
The website Privacy Policy separately explains how data may be processed when you use pinusmaximus.com .
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by Romanian law, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection, data protection and conflict-of-law rules that may apply in your country.
18. Changes and version availability
These terms may be updated from time to time.
For an installed extension version, the terms packaged with or linked from that version apply until a newer extension version or newer in-extension document is installed or presented.
Browser extension stores may review or distribute updates with delay. Until you receive or install an updated extension version, the document available in your installed version may remain the applicable in-extension copy.
